What You Can Do to Prevent Osteoporosis

You can do a lot to help prevent osteoporosis. Remember to:

  • Eat a balanced diet, including protein from lean meats, nuts, and legumes, and lots of vegetables and fruits
  • Consume at least 1200 mg. of calcium from various sources, and at least 600-800 IU of vitamin D
  • Exercise regularly, including weight-bearing exercises like walking, strength training, and balancing exercises
  • Prevent falls by clearing your floors of any objects you could trip over, be careful on stairs, and walk on even ground as much as you can
